I knew about communism at a very early age just from listening to the news. The Soviet agenda was evil and this was very evident from its performance. Nothing has changed over time. Communism is managed by humans who succumb to the powers that are granted by the Marxist criteria. In the end, the people within the communist leadership will always succumb to the evils of power which may be granted by the Marxist criteria.
